You will recap how to use the overlocker, and alter the tension and differential feed for different fabric types.

You will also be taught how to do a range of additional techniques using the overlocker, to develop your skills such as:

• rolled hems
• decorative lettuce hems
• gathering using the overlocker
• flatlocking
• flatlocked hem
• mock hem bands

You can then choose to use some of these techniques to produce a gorgeous new Bedrock Tee.

This is an extension and development from our 'learn how to use an overlocker course'. We would recommend that you do the 'learn how to use an overlocker course' first so that this workshop is relevant to your skills and knowledge.

Depending on your past level of experience, you may not completely finish the project during the workshop. However, you will have all the tips and skills required to complete it at home. The focus of this course is getting you confident on he overlocker, not completing a garment in a day.

• A printed copy of Sew Liberated 'Bedrock Tee' dressmaking pattern, printed in house on our A0 plotter (US sizes 0-34, bust 31"-58", waist 25"-52", hips 33"-61") If you fall out of the size range of the pattern included, please let us know in advance and we can arrange an alternative for you
• An electronic copy of the Bedrock Tee sewing pattern instructions, which you can view at home afterwards on your phone, device or computer.

• Tea/coffee and biscuits (Please bring a packed lunch or visit one of the lovely local cafes)

• Stretch/jersey fabric to make the Sew Liberated Bedrock Tee. Please get in touch regarding fabric quantities needed. We recommend purchasing this in advance of the class so that it can be pre-washed as it is typical for jersey/stretchy fabrics to shrink a little on the first wash.
• Depending on your fabric choice you may need thread to match your fabric. This could always be purchased on the day.
• You are welcome to bring along your own Overlocker to the class if you wish but this is not essential. If you plan to bring your own machine please email us at office@guthrie-ghani.co.uk to let us know the make and model of your machine, and to confirm that it has been PAT tested or with a copy of the receipt as proof that it is less than a year old.
• If your overlocker is older than 1 year it must be PAT tested before hand which can be done by an electrician. This is essential for health and safety reasons as we don't have insurance without the PAT test. We are unable to do any repairs or servicing on sewing machines so please ensure if it is an old overlocker that is has been serviced before hand. Our local sewing machine shop in Kings Heath, Frank Nutt, is able to carry this out.
