One-Day Trouser Fitting & Design Workshop: From Block to Garment

Take your trouser-making skills to the next level in this focused, hands-on workshop designed for sewists who have already created their own personalised trouser block.

In this 6.5 hour class, you'll:

✅ Adapt your block into a custom trouser style — think tapered, wide-leg, pleated, or elasticated waist
✅ Explore key design details like pockets, waistbands, and fastenings
✅ Begin testing your design in calico to master fit and proportion
✅ Learn how to design for your unique body shape for comfort and style
✅ Get expert support and guidance throughout the entire process

By the end of the day, you'll have a developed trouser pattern and a partially tested toile — ready for refinement and final garment construction at home.

Prefer to focus on techniques? You're welcome to spend the day creating a series of detailed samples instead, that can be developed into full patterns in your own time.

Please note:

  • This class is ideal for intermediate sewists looking to deepen their pattern-cutting skills and explore custom trouser design in a creative, supportive environment.
  • Class sizes for pattern drafting classes are set to a maximum of 6 students. This means more space in the studio for students and more individual time with the tutor.

Emma Smith

Emma started sewing as a young girl using scraps from her mum’s dressmaking to makes dolls clothes.

She developed that love through needlework class at school, and fashion and textiles courses at college and University, after which she spent time working in the garment making industry.

She now works as a freelance sewing tutor and loves sharing her passion with others, as well as finding time to sew most of her own clothes – she has the motto “if I can make it I can’t buy it”!

On the rare occasions she’s outside of the sewing room Emma endeavours to stay fit and healthy by running and training in a local gym.
